Four V-Hawks Claim Gold at Meet of the UnSaintly

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Viterbo University Women's Track and Field team competed at the Hamline University (Minn.) Meet of the UnSaintly on Friday afternoon. The V-Hawks earned 14 podium finishes.

Breanna Ihde led the way with a pair of gold medals in the 100 (12.09) and the 200 (25.85) meter dashes.

Lana Yeakel secured a gold medal of her own in the long jump (5.34m, 17-06.25), while being just behind her teammate in the 200 (2nd, 26.17) and the 100 (3rd, 12.14).

Alexie Stephani was the final V-Hawk to take first place, with a 1.55m (5-01.00) jump-off win in the high jump. She also took second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.27m (33-08.50).

Claudia Schunk (4th, 12.46), Emily Howell (6th, 12.99), and Grace Peyron (7th, 13.02) rounded out a dominate showing for the V-Hawks in the 100. Schunk also finished third in the 200 with a time of 26.62.

Viterbo had three top finishers in both hurdle events, as in the 100 hurdles, Ashley Veronen took second (15.40), Emma Johnson took fifth (15.73) and Madelyn Kassulke was eighth (17.50). in the 400 hurldes, Tess Durscher earned a silver medal with a time of 1:09.21, Kassulke was fifth (1:20.40) and Kendra Czerneski was sixth at 1:21.26.

Megan Sobatta and Lauren Cole were top-four finishers in the high jump behind Stephani, with Sobotta taking third after clearing 1.45m and Cole in fourth with a height of 1.40m

The V-Hawks dominated the pole vault, with Bailey Nuutinen, Emma Johnson, and Tess Durscher taking third, fourth, and fifth respectively, with each clearing 3.26m, placing based on attempts. Howell also finished sixth with a height of 3.11m, and Olivia Wingo was eighth at 2.96m.

Peyron recorded a long jump of 5.11m (16-09.25), which was good enough for second place, and Jaselyn Sathre was eighth with a leap of 4.03m (13-02.75).

Payton Dryden earned a bronze medal in the discus throw, with a toss of 38.23m (125-05) and also took seventh in hammer with a throw of 40.63m (133-04).

In the javelin throw, Callie Kiefer took fourth at 28.26m (92-08) and Nuutinen took fifth at 27.69m (90-10).

The V-Hawks look ahead to the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) outdoor Championships starting on Thursday, May 11 in Dickinson, ND.
