V-Hawks Claim 2022 NSAA Title; Four Finish in Top Ten
DICKINSON, N.D. - The Viterbo University Women's Cross Country team landed 4 of the top 10 runners to help lead them to the 2022 North Star Athletic Association Women's Cross Country Title. Dickinson State University (N.D.) hosted the meet at Heart River Golf Course in Dickinson on Friday. The top 10 individual runners would receive NSAA All-Conference Team awards.
Viterbo finished with 32 points in the conference meet with a time of 1:37:28.50 followed by Dickinson State at second place with 55 points. Dakota State (S.D.) came in at third and tallied 82 points. Bellevue and Valley City State both finished with 111 points and Waldorf brought up the rear finishing with 141 points.
Madison Nelson of Bellevue won the 2022 NSAA Women's Cross Country individual title with a time of 18:27.00. Madelyn Adam was the top individual performer for the V-Hawks placing third with a time of 19:15.30. Brenna McDonough would follow right behind placing fourth with a time of 19:16.50. Anya Hirsch ran a time of 19:18.20 placing her in fifth followed by Vanessa Thomas with a time of 19:27.30 placing her in sixth.
Other runners for the V-Hawks included Tori Gerber (14th, 20:11.50), Hannah Butler (15th, 20:12.70), Jerica Mueller (31st, 21:52.30), Bernadette Frisch (34th, 22:21.80), Megan Scheuer (35th, 22:22.10), Kaitlyn Wrage (37th, 22:57.80), Rebecca York (38th, 23:10.60), Maria Grater (40th, 23:11.20), and Madie Olson (41st, 23:27.00).
Senior Tori Gerber was the V-Hawk selected as the NSAA Champion of Character Recipient. Other recipients of this award included Hannah Perkins (Bellevue), Saddie Palmquist (Dakota State), Piper Perez (Dickinson State), Jasmine Barnes (Valley City State), and Mindy Barchenger (Waldorf).
Viterbo Women's Cross Country Head Coach Don Fritsch was selected as the NSAA Women's Cross Country Coach-of-the-Year.
The V-Hawks will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to run at the NAIA National Cross Country Championships on Friday, November 18 at 8:30AM CST.
