LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks took to the field this afternoon to face off against the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers. Tonight's match was the home opener for the V-Hawks, and the team showed off with a strong 5-0 shutout victory.
In the first half, the V-Hawks scored four goals, all within the first 32 minutes of the game. Their final goal came at 80 minutes. Throughout the match, Viterbo took 13 shots to Dakota Wesleyan's 9. Of the 13 shots, the V-Hawks landed seven of them on goal, scoring on five.
Defensively, goalkeeper Peter Kolenyo picked up three saves over the course of the match. Kolenyo didn't let a single score get through, finishing with a shutout.
GOAL SCORING
- 4' - Just four minutes into the game, Alvaro Paquete Olivera went to the far corner for the first corner kick of the game. He launched it into the air, and Arnaud Perot Huillet put it in for the V-Hawks.
- 18' - At the 18 minute mark, Jokubas Jancauskas got away from the Dakota Wesleyan defenders for a wide open goal, unassisted. This marks the third goal for Jancauskas this season.
- 19' - Only one minute later, Joaquin Eichhorn got fouled by the Tigers in the box, earning a penalty kick opportunity. He placed the ball right into the net, scoring the third goal for the V-Hawks.
- 31' - A repeat of the goal before, Joaquin Eichhorn was fouled once again in the box, earning a second penalty kick. He scored again on this opportunity, bringing the V-Hawks lead to 4-0 going into the half. This marks the third goal of the season for Eichhorn.
- 80' - At 80 minutes, Sebastian Ortiz got an open look at the goal, scoring the final goal of the night for the V-Hawks. His goal was assisted by Alvaro Paquete Oliveira.
