V-Hawks Cruise to 2-0 Victory

FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team captured a 2-0 win over Waldorf University (Iowa) on Wednesday night. The V-Hawks improve to 2-1-2 on the year, while the Warriors fall to 0-3-0.

Conner Erdmann would take the fist shot of the game just before the fourth minute mark, but it would be saved by Waldorf. Antonio Coutinho would respond with two shots for the Warriors, with one going high and the other hitting the post. Charlie Austin-Ross would then save two quick goals, one by Aimane Sahraoui and the other by Alvaro Iglesias. It would then be over twenty minutes before the next shot on goal, attempted by Santiago Tellez in the 35th minute. Johan Hamnstrom set up Polyzois Douvas at 37:01 to break the stalemate, and with under a minute in the half, Sebastian Acosta brought the match to 2-0 going into the break.

Douvas started the second half with a shot on goal that was saved by new goalie Kyle Pederson. Ernesto Ascenzo had his first save in the 58th minute, and another two minutes later. The V-Hawks would push the offense, as Douvas, Hamnstrom, Adam Krakora, and AJ Agbede all taking shots on target, but Pederson saved all four. Waldorf took two shots in the last five minutes, but Ascenzo was there to secure the clean sheet and 2-0 win.

12 of Viterbo's 14 shots landed on goal, led by four attempts (three on goal) and a score by Douvas. Five different Warriors had attempts land on target.

Ernesto Ascenzo (2-1-2) earned the win with five saves, while Pederson had six.

The V-Hawks return to action on Friday, September 8 at Luther College (Iowa) at 7:30 PM.
