Big First Half Leads V-Hawks Over IUNW

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team defeated Indiana University-Northwest 3-2 in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) bout on Saturday afternoon. The V-Hawks improve to 6-2-5 (4-1-2 CCAC), while the Red Hawks fall to 3-6-4 (2-6-0 CCAC).

Following an early save by V-Hawks goalie Molly Ripley, Ella Herman would put Viterbo on the board, assisted by Hadley Dammer at 6:50. Ripley would save another attempt by the Red Hawks, and Dammer would score a goal of her own, this time assisted by Brooke Clements in the 17th minute. IUNW keeper Isabel Escalera had three rapid saves on attempts by Herman, Clements, and Dammer, and Brynn Nylin scored for the Red Hawks, assisted by Kelly Landry at 33:48. Clements scored a final time for Viterbo, assisted by Jenna Bennett, at 39:25 to extend the lead to  3-1 going into the break.

Landry recorded another assist for IUNW to start the second, this time to Gianna Wittee, but the defenses would step up after that, as Veerle Vriens had two more saves for the V-Hawks, and Escalera had four, two coming from attempts by Dammer, and one from Casey Hill and Herman.

Dammer and Clements each had three points to lead the V-Hawks, each with four shots landing on goal. Molly Ripley (W, 4-2-2) had three saves for the V-Hawks, while Isabel Escalera (L, 2-6-4) had 11.

The V-Hawks return to action on Tuesday, October 17 at Roosevelt University (Ill.).
