Three V-Hawks Net Two Goals in First Season Win

LA CROSSE, Wis.  – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team secured their first win of the season with a 6-1 win over Crown College (Minn.) on Saturday afternoon. The V-Hawks improve to 1-1-1 on the season.

Crown got a clean look early in the match, but Moly Ripley would save the shot on goal in the second minute, and after a few early shots that were off goal, Brooke Clements and Alex Little would set up Ella Herman for a goal in the 19th minute. Crown would tie the match at 27:25 on an unassisted goal by Ella Hollander, but Clements would record a goal of her own, assisted by Carsen Desens to give the edge back to Viterbo at 35:34.

Viterbo would come out of halftime on fire, as Herman scored in under a minute, and Lauren Wedig had two in quick succession, the second coming on a penalty kick in the 50th minute. Veerle Vriens saved an attempt by Ashley Pierce, and after Rachel Fuller saved a Clements attempt, she would sneak one past her in the 68th minute for her second goal of the day. Ashlee Tupper had a pair of attempts on goal, but neither team would score again, and Viterbo would win 6-1.

Clements and Wedig each had all three of their attempts land on goal, scoring two goals a piece, while Herman's two goals came on five attempts, four on goal. Pierce took six of the Polars seven shots, landing two on goal.

Molly Ripley (1-1-1) earned the win with one save, while Rachel Fuller (L, 0-1-0) had 10 saves.

The V-Hawks return to action on Friday, September 1 as they host Martin Luther College (Minn.) at 4 PM.
