Clements Late Goal Ties Match with the Pride

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team tied the Clarke University (Iowa) Pride in a non-conference match on Tuesday morning, 1-1. The V-Hawks now hold a 0-1-1 record, while the Pride sit at 1-0-1.

The Pride were on the offensive early in the match, with five shots, including one on goal that was saved by Molly Ripley, before the 10' mark. Ella Herman would record the first shot for the V-Hawks, an on goal attempt that was saved by Faith Krapfl at 10:15. Ripley recorded two more save in rapid succession around the 22nd minute, and had two more before the end of the half. Lauren Wedig added another shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the half would end 0-0.

Veerle Vriens would take over at goalie for Viterbo in the second half, and record her first save at 52:58. However, Shannon Catchur would score a goal, assisted by Morgan Catchur and Jamie Albertson four minutes later. CU would take four more shots, with two saved by Vriens, until Brooke Clements scored her first goal as a V-Hawk to even the score 1-1 with 2 minute left. Krapfl had one more save, and Vriens three more, including a last second attempt by Hope Ward.

Clements led the V-Hawks with three shots, two on goal, and one score, while Herman and Wedig each added another shot on goal. S. Catchur scored one goal on five attempts.

Ripley (T, 0-1-1) had five saves, and Vriens had six. Faith Krapfl (T, 1-0-1) saved three attempts for Clarke.

Viterbo returns to action on Saturday, August 26 as they host Crown College (Minn.) at 2 PM.
