Catchur's goal leads to a 1-1 draw against Viterbo

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Shannon Catchur's tally in the 56th minute of action gave the Pride women's soccer team their lone goal in a 1-1 draw Tuesday morning at Viterbo University.

It didn't take long for both teams to wake up after the early morning start as Pride forward Laryssa Pritchard got the offense started with a shot 35 seconds in that just missed wide of the goal. The early shot would be a sign of things to come against the V-Hawks as the Pride would come away with 12 first-half shots, with five needing to be saved by the home team's starting goalie, Molly Ripley.

Both teams would combine for 21 first-half shots, but neither team would be able to find the back of the net over the first 45 minutes of action. Despite not letting up a goal in the first half, VU decided to make a change in net to begin the second half and Veerle Vriens took over.

Vriens, would see even more shots come her way as the CU attack, led by senior Shannon Catchur and her five shots, kept pushing for their first goal of the game. Catchur, who finished last season with 10 goals, would eventually succeed in the 56th minute from her teammates Morgan Catchur and Jamie Albertson.

Looking to hold off the V-Hawks to get their second win of the season in as many tries, the Pride would surrender a goal in the 78th minute unassisted by Brooke Clemente.

The final 12 minutes of play would become hectic with both teams pushing to get the game-winner, however, the game would end in a 1-1 draw.

Having to make five saves in the net for the second consecutive game, goalie Faith Krapfl kept the V-Hawks off the scoreboard for most of the contest and faced 14 total shots.

The Pride women's soccer team will come back home this Saturday for a 4 pm tilt against Judson University.
