V-Hawks Fall to Warhawks in Final Regular Season Game

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team hosted the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in their final regular season game on Tuesday. The Warhawks claimed a 5-0 victory to improve to 11-3-4, while the V-Hawks drop to 8-5-2.

Whitewater wouldn't take long to take control of the game, scoring the first goal of the game at the 3:18 mark, an unassisted score by Nina Malak. In the 12th minute, Emily Thill put a ball ahead on the sideline, and Allie Prigge threaded a shot between the goalie and defender good for a 2-0 lead. Jenna Bennett was able to put a shot on goal, but after the save the Warhawks countered and Malak found Jessica Smeltzer to put UWW up three. The Warhawks would muster four more shots before the end of the half, keeper Anna Becker saved two and Whitewater took the 3-0 lead into the break.

Becker started the second half with another save, but six minutes in, Prigge scored her second goal, assisted by Oakley Witteck. 15 minutes later, Lauren Wedig and Alex Little would each put shots on goal, but goalie Emma Hager saved them both. In the 69th minute, Brittany Ellinghaus scored the final goal of the game on an assist from Malak. Little and Aimee Kemper each took another shot in the final minutes, but neither were successful.

Whitewater outshot Viterbo 14-9, including 9-3 on goal, and each team took three corner kicks. Jude Dobrinska (11-3-4) claimed the win the one save, and Becker (3-2-1) had four saves.
