V-Hawks Fall to Mustangs 2-1

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Viterbo Women's Soccer Team traveled and fell 1-2 to Morningside University (Iowa) on Sunday afternoon. The V-Hawks' record drops to 5-3-1 while the Mustangs improve to 4-4.

Three minutes into the first half, Morningside's Merel Kooij got off a cross which found Sina Feeser, giving them an early 1-0 lead. Viterbo regained composure, with keeper Molly Ripley making two saves in the half, and Grace Breuchel taking two shots on goal. The half ended with the V-Hawks trailing 0-1.

The second half started off with a back and forth battle, earning each team shots. At 58:00, Grace Breuchel would find the ball and tap it in after a scramble in front of the net. The V-Hawks' hard work allowed them to maintain a 1-1 tie for most of the half, until the Mustangs were able to find Keyera Harmon for a goal at 79:00. The V-Hawks worked until the end, but ultimately came up a goal short.

The V-Hawks outshot the Mustangs 11-10, and the teams both landed 5 shots on goal. Ripley (3-1-1) saved 3 shots, while Morningside's Megan Messersmith saved 4. Breuchel would again top Viterbo in stats by taking 10 out of their 11 shots.

The V-Hawks return to action at home against Loras College (Iowa) on September 30 at 3:00 PM CST.
