Women's Soccer records a 2-1 victory over Viterbo

Mustangs take windy win over V-Hawks

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – It was especially breezy as the Mustangs stepped onto the pitch in Elwood Olsen Stadium this afternoon, preparing to meet the Viterbo V-Hawks in non-conference women's soccer action. The conditions were unchanged as the teams stepped off after 90 minutes of play, but Morningside had added another win to its record, setting aside the visitors 2-1.

It was early in the contest when the first goal was scored, as Sina Feeser took a cross from Merel Kooij at the top of the 6-yard box, tapping it into the back of the net with only three minutes off the clock.

The Mustangs kept the V-Hawks from using the wind to their advantage through the first half, but couldn't keep a goal off the board as Viterbo scored the equalizer 13 minutes into the second period of play.

With 11 minutes separating the teams from a tie, Keyera Harmon got off a shot from the top of the 18-yard box, sending it sailing into the top right corner of the goal.

Megan Messersmith collected the win in goal, recording four saves in 90 minutes of play.

The Mustangs are back in action at Elwood Olsen Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 28, playing Hastings at 5:30 p.m.
