V-Hawks Top Rams 9-1

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer Team defeated North Central University (Minn.) 9-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the Viterbo Outdoor Athletic Complex. The V-Hawks improve to 2-2-1 while the Rams drop to 0-2.

Viterbo would push the pace right away, with two early shots on goal. Then Grace Breuchel, who set the school record with six goals in Monday's game, picked up where she left off, scoring two goal sin less than three minutes. Isabel Henry recorded assists on both goals, and Carsen Desens added one. :12 seconds after Breuchel's second goal, Kelcie Karweick had a goal of her own, and the V-Hawks led 3-0 at the 8:39 mark. Karweick would then play distributor, finding Kennedy Alves for her first career goal in the 14th minute. Less than three minutes later, Alves would set up Emma Miller to push the V-Hawk lead to 5-0. Viterbo would post four more shots on goal throughout the first half, but goalie Abigail Herbolsheimer would save all four.

The V-Hawks did take long to continue the scoring barrage, as :31 second into the half, Jenna Bennett put in an unassisted goal. Five minutes later, Miller returned the favor, setting up Alves for her second goal of the day. In the 60th minute, Breuchel completed the hat trick, scoring on a Karweick assist. North Central would refuse to be shut out, as Hannah Grubbs scored an unassisted goal in the final minute of the game but would also put in an own goal with :22 seconds left, leaving the score at 9-1.

Viterbo would outshoot the Rams 33-1, including 20-1 on goal, and would take all 10 corner kicks in the game. Bruechel led with three goals, Alves added two goals and an assist, while Karweick posted one goal and two assists. Molly Ripley (1-0-1) recorded the win, while Herbolsheimer (0-2), recorded 11 saves.

The V-Hawks return to action on Thursday, September 8 at Rockford University (Ill.).
