Viterbo Drops Season Opener at St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team dropped their season opener 3-0 to St. Thomas (Fla.), who was receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll. at Bobcat Turf Field. The V-Hawks drop to 0-1 while the Bobcats improve to 1-0.

Alex Little would take the first shot of the season for Vitebro, but goalie Isabella Penaranda would save the shot. The Bobcats would get on the board in the 16th minute on a goal by Miranda Ferradaz, assisted by Leslie De Leon. Ferradaz would put in another goal just before half on an assist from Sarolta Oppelland to go up 2-0 going into halftime. Grace Breuchel, Hadley Dammer, and Aimee Kemper each had shots on goal in the first half.

Ferradaz would then find Karina Medina on a corner kick to go up 3-0 at 60:54. Although Shani Tiber and Belle Johnson would each get another shot in before the end of the game, but none found the net.

St. Thomas would outshoot the V-Hawks 14-7, had the edge in shots on goal 13-4, and took the only three corner kicks in the game.

Madison Williams (0-1) played 76 minutes and recorded seven saves, and Molly Ripley played the final 13 minutes. Pernaranda (1-0) played all 90 minutes and had four saves.

The V-Hawks return to action on Tuesday, August 23rd at #6 Keiser in West Palm Beach, Fla.
