DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Viterbo University Softball team split their first CCAC conference series at St. Ambrose Wednesday afternoon 3-1 and 4-6. The V-Hawks move to 2-12 (CCAC 1-1) while the Fighting Bees sit at 15-13 (CCAC 1-1).
Viterbo 3, St. Ambrose 1
The V-Hawks opened the game with a run on a ground out ball to third, the Bee's tying up the game in the fourth. Pulling away in the lead the V-Hawks would record two runs off a fielders choice by Megan Jardine.
Morgan Fuhrer was on the mound for the full seven innings with one strikeout allowing three hits and only a single run for the win.
At the plate Jardine's reach on a fielders choice would get her two RBIs sending Alyssa Roos, and Makayla Nortman home. Alina Garstka smashing for a double, and Natalie Martin claiming an RBI to send Jardine home.
Viterbo 4, St. Ambrose 6
The Bee's taking the lead early in game two would go up three runs in the bottom of the third before the V-Hawks would respond with three runs of their own. With a close game the Bee's would score in the bottom of the sixth for the win.
On the mound Alexis Watson would pitch six innings, claiming six strikeouts while allowing six runs over seven hits for the loss.
Makella Jacobs led at the plate with a homer sending Jardine home for two RBIs, Alexis Watson hitting a triple and stealing a base, while Grace Elton and Roos would single to the outfield for RBIs of their own.
The V-Hawks are back in action Thursday, March 27 to host Mount Mercy.
