
SAU split with Viterbo in conference opener
The Bees begin conference play by going 1-1 with the V-Hawks on Wednesday afternoon. In game one, St. Ambrose was plagued with errors allowing Viterbo to score three runs in the 3-1 contest. In game two, the bats came alive for the Bees resulting in six runs in the 6-4 matchup.
In the opener, St. Ambrose's lone run came in the fourth inning when Kylee Claypool lead off with a single to center field. In the next at-bat Becca Haag lined a double into the outfield driving in Claypool from first base. Haag, Claypool, and Mady Reed each acquired a hit in game one. Haag also snagged the lone RBI of the game.
Extra base hits lead the Bees to victory in game two. The pitching stalemate broke open in the bottom of the fourth when Parker Leonard legged out a drive to right center for a triple bringing in Bianca Shorter. Claypool and Haag each found their way to second base while driving in a run. St. Ambrose scored their final three runs on a couple fielding hiccups by the V-Hawks. Haag lead the team offensively with two hits, two RBIs, and a double. Ada Boysen also produced two hits with a double and triple. Leonard walked away with one hit, one RBI, and a triple. Also recording hits for the Bees were Shorter and Mia Souliotis.
Allyson Harrold got the win in game two striking out nine V-Hawks.
St. Ambrose is next in action taking on Trinity Christian on Saturday.
