V-Hawks Capture First Home Win

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Softball team split a pair of games with Dickinson State University (ND) on Saturday, winning the first game 8-7, then losing the second, 1-15. The V-Hawks now sit at 4-17 (1-3 NSAA) on the year, while the Blue Hawks are 8-14 (3-1 NSAA).

The Blue Hawks took control of the game with a two-run homer in the top of the first, then three more runs in the second. Viterbo would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a Haleigh Zanoni RBI, followed by a Chelsie Paulsen RBI walk to bring in Amanda Bogdonovich. After DSU scored in the top of the fifth, Morgan James answered with a home run that also scored Sydney Haakenson. One more home run from Dickinson in the sixth brought the lead to 7-4, but in the seventh, four V-Hawks recorded hits, and Zanoni, Makayla Nortman, Megan Jardine, and Haakenson all earned RBIs for the win.

James led the V-Hawks, going 3-of-4 with a pair of RBIs, while three Blue Hawks recorded multiple hits. Alexis Watson earned the complete game win, and Reannan Butler recorded the loss.

Viterbo would take the early lead in the second game, as James brought home Haakenson in the bottom of the first. However, the Blue Hawks had a hug third inning with seven hits leading to 11 runs. They added four more in the fifth, while Viterbo was unable to add another hit.

James and Haakenson recorded the lone hits for Viterbo. Five Blue Hawks had multiple hits. Emily Roberts recorded the loss, while Dallis Mitchell earned the win.

Viterbo returns to action on Wednesday, March 20 as they host a doubleheader with Clarke University (Iowa).
