Offensive explosion in game two gives DSU series win at Viterbo

La Crosse, Wis. – Dickinson State suffered a tough loss in game one on Saturday before responding with a resounding win in game two to win the weekend series, 3-1, over Viterbo University.

Game One – VU 8 DSU 7

Dickinson State held leads of 5-0 and 7-4 but a four-run bottom of the seventh inning gave the hosts from La Crosse, Wisconsin the 8-7 win in game one of the double header.

Dallis Mitchell, Kara Conway, and Jessa Duggan all homered for the Blue Hawks as they raced out to a 5-0 lead over the first two innings, but five errors, including two with two-outs in the seventh, proved costly as the V-Hawks stole the win to start the day.

Game Two – DSU 15 VU 1

DSU responded with a bang in game two, erasing an early 1-0 lead with an 11-run third inning to cruise to a 15-1 five-inning mercy-rule victory.

The Blue Hawks got RBI hits from Karissa Comer, Bailey Hansen, Jai Maddox-Hernandez, HaiLeigh Davis, and Cassy Loa in the third inning outburst before Kiley Hubby capped it off with a grand slam.

Eight different Blue Hawks drove in runs in game two, as Kara Conway and Cassidy Venner collected RBI in a four-run fifth inning for Dickinson State.

Dallis Mitchell earned the win in the circle, going all five innings and allowing just one run on one hit, the first batter of the game, in a dominant performance.
