Viterbo Sweeps Waldorf in Conference Doubleheader

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Viterbo University Softball team traveled to Iowa to battle the Waldorf University Warriors in a doubleheader matchup on Wednesday. The V-Hawks swept the Warriors with scores of 8-2 and 8-0. Viterbo rises to 9-21 overall (5-11 NSAA) while Waldorf drops to 11-18 overall (6-6 NSAA). 

Waldorf would score their first and only points of the game in the bottom of the first with Paige Pierson scoring on an RBI by McKenna Mentink. Shortly after, Brooke Hickey put up a run for the Warriors going into inning two, 0-2. Both teams went scoreless in innings two and three before a double to left field and RBI Brittney Slocum brought Channing Manske home to put the V-Hawks first point on the board. The V-Hawks continued adding points in the fifth inning with a sacrifice bunt by Sydney Haakenson and Makayla Nortman scoring on a passed ball giving Viterob the lead 3-2. The sixth inning allowed the V-Hawks to stretch their lead with freshman Grace Brewer scoring on a double by Amanda Bogdonovich heading into the seventh inning 6-2. Marissa Carter-Olson would record two RBIs to end the game with Viterbo dominating 8-2. 

Bogdonovich went 2 for 3 at the plate including one double. Carter-Olson recorded 2 RBIs. Pitcher Ella Driebel recorded the win pitching 5 innings and striking out 2 batters. Waldorf's pitcher Maddie Dalke recorded the loss.

Viterbo put the first points on the board for game two in the second innning with Courtney Denton scoring on an error by the Warriors. Nortman recorded an RBI to sending Bogdonovich home going into the the third inning 2-0. Both teams went scoreless in the following two innings before Viterbo would score three more runs in the fifth inning with two RBIs by Haleigh Zanoni. The V-Hawks were able to score again in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly RBI by Carter-Olson followed by two RBIs by Alina Garstka ending game two 8-0.

Manske went 4 for 4 at the plate with one RBI and 2 stolen bases. Zanoni and Garstka each recorded 2 RBIs. Viterbo's pitcher Morgan Fuhrer recorded the win pitching all 7 innings and striking out 2 batters. Alex Mathers recorded the loss pitching 4.2 innings. 

The V-Hawks will remain on the road in another conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 15th at 2:00 and 4:00 PM CST.
