Crimson Wave Tops V-Hawks in Three

WHITING, Ind. – The Viterbo University Men's Volleyball team traveled to Calumet College (Ind.) on Saturday, but loss the match 0-3 (21-25, 14-25, 18-25). The V-Hawks are now 3-11 (1-5 CCAC), while the Crimson Wave is now 5-4, (4-4 CAC).

After Viterbo went up 3-1 on an Alex Kratzenstein-Caleb Koza block, Calumet would run six straight points, and lead by as much as 7-12. Juan Banda's kill ended the run, and Jacob Nonn's kill started a run for the V-Hawks that included two Nonn aces and a Joe Todd kill. Another 7-0 run for the Wave gave them an 18-22 lead, and Todd's solo block and Jaden Wiest's kill would not be enough for Viterbo as they lost 21-25.

Calumet carried the momentum into the second, going up 2-10 very quickly. Todd's kill and ace helped the V-Hawks chip away at the lead, bringing the game to 10-14. CC would take control yet against, and despite some errors, would claim the 14-25 middle set victory.

Four straight aces by Nonn gave Viterbo the 8-6 lead in the third. Todd and Logan Amdur combined for a block, and Banda slammed another kill, but the Wave would still manage to take the 13-14 lead. Todd and Nonn continued to put down kills, bringing the V-Hawks back to an 18-16 lead, but one final 9-0 run for the Wave gave them the sweep victory.

Nonn led the V-Hawks with seven kills, six aces, and five blocks, while Amdur had 19 assists and Banda had nine digs. Francis Hauze had 12 kills and five blocks for the Wave.

The V-Hawks travel to Cardinal Stritch University on Monday, February 27 looking to break a 10-game losing streak.
