Men's Volleyball goes 1-1 on the road against CCAC opponents

The Viterbo Men's Volleyball team (9-4) went 1-1 over the weekend on the road against two Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) opponents. The V-Hawks fell in a closely contested five-set match to Calumet for the second time in as many weeks before sweeping Lincoln College. 

Game one at Calumet (23-25, 22-25, 30-28, 25-20, 18-20):

  • The V-Hawks traveled to Whiting, Ind. for a rematch against the Crimson Wave after falling in five sets at home last week Saturday.
  • Calumet edged the V-Hawks in the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-22, to go up 2-0 on for the match. 
  • The V-Hawks fought back in set three, winning 30-28, and earning 20 of the 30 points they needed to score in order to extend the match. 
  • Viterbo hit exceptionally high in set four, collecting 13 kills with only two errors (.367) to take the set by the widest point margin of the match, 25-20. 
  • Both teams battled hard in the shortened set five, forcing eight extra points. However, Calumet came out on top, winning 20-18. 
  • Four V-Hawks collected double-digit kills: Jacob Nonn (20), Juan Banda (19), Dake Kerkman (11), and My Tang (10).
  • Three V-Hawks had double-digit digs: Andy Roungtakoun (18), Juan Banda (16), and Jacob Nonn (12).
  • Andrew Lepage led all players with 54 assists.

Game two at Lincoln College (25-20, 25-21, 25-12): 

  • The road trip continued for Viterbo, visiting Lincoln Center, Ill. to square off against the Lynx of Lincoln College.
  • The V-Hawks started out hot in set one, collecting 15 kills and hitting .286 to take the set 25-20.
  • Both teams struggled in set two, with each squad hitting in the negative, but the V-Hawks came out on top, 25-21. 
  • Set three was all Viterbo as they smashed 16 kills with only one hitting error (.517) to coast to the 25-12 victory and take the match.
  • Nonn led the team with 14 kills, followed by Banda with 10. Lepage dished out 30 assists Banda and Roungtakoun collected double-digit digs at 14 and 11, respectively. 

The Viterbo Men's Volleyball team will continue their journey through the CCAC with two more conference matches this week. The V-Hawks will face St. Ambrose on Thursday at home before hosting a triangular with Trinity Christian and non-conference Dordt on Saturday.
