Men's Volleyball sweeps Clarke on the road
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Viterbo Men's Volleyball team (6-2) returned to action on Tuesday night against the Clarke Pride. The V-Hawks swept the Pride behind scores of 25-13, 25-23, and 26-24.
The V-Hawks dominated set one, collecting 13 kills with only one error, hitting .571, and holding their opponent to a .077 hitting percentage. Set two was a different story, as the Pride were much improved. The V-Hawks started the game down 2-6 but were able to chip away after scoring seven of the next 10 points to tie the game at nine. From there, it was a battle, with the biggest lead coming from the V-Hawks at 14-11. Tied at 22, two kills by Juan Banda and a block by Dane Kerkman pushed the V-Hawks to the 25-23 victory.
Set three saw very similar play as set two, with neither team leading by more than two points through the first half of the set. However, tied at 14, the Pride went on a 4-0 run to build the biggest lead of the last two sets. The V-Hawks did not give up and fought their way back to tie the game at 22. After trading the next four points to tie the game at 24, a Clarke hitting error followed by a Jacob Nonn kill sealed the set and the match.
Banda and Nonn led the V-Hawks with 13 kills apiece, while Andrew Lepage dished out 31 assists. The Viterbo Men's Volleyball team will be back at home on Friday to take on Lincoln College. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 PM CST. Follow the action on our website or by following us on social media.
