Pride drop home match 3-0 to Viterbo

DUBUQUE, Iowa - In a brief break from their Heart of America Athletic Conference schedule, the Clarke University men's volleyball team dropped their home match on Tuesday night 3-0 to Viterbo University.

The V-Hawks took the first set relatively handily by a final score of 25-13 but they pulled off narrow two-point set wins in the second and third as the third also went into extra points with Viterbo earning 25-23 and 26-24 in the second and third sets.

The Pride had a tough night on the attack compared to Viterbo as they finished with 30 kills but 20 errors for a .127 hitting percentage compared to the V-Hawks hitting .303 with 38 kills and just 15 errors.

Jacob Nonn and Juan Banda were the attacking leaders for the match as they led Viterbo with 13 kills each in the match as Banda only had two errors on 20 attempts for a .550 hitting percentage as Nonn gave more points to CU with eight errors to finish his night at a .172 hitting percentage.

For Clarke, Montez Thompson and and Zachary Barr both had seven kills, five block assists, and three errors as Barr only had 12 attempts from the middle compared to Thompson's 16 from the outside. Timothy Meyer (6), Tye Ojala (4), and Stephen Lewandowski (4) all finished with as many errors as they did kills to finish at an even .000 hitting percentage in the match.

CU men's volleyball will return to Heart play this weekend with a road match at Missouri Valley before returning to Dubuque for a match against Culver-Stockton College on Sunday at the Kehl Center, a match that was moved from its original date this Saturday to make up for travel concerns.
