V-Hawks Win on Senior Day

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team topped St. Ambrose University (Iowa) in their final home game of the season on Tuesday afternoon, 2-1. The V-Hawks improve to 7-4-6 (4-3-3 CCAC) on the year, while the Fighting Bees fall to 4-8-2 (4-6 CCAC).

The V-Hawks took the first three shots of the game, with Johan Hamnstrom and Nicolas Lopez landing shots on goal, but it would be Lopez in the 17^th minute to get Viterbo on the scoreboard, assisted by Hamnstrom. A pair of shots by the Bees in the 20^th minute were blocked, and Ernesto Ascenzo had his first save of the day at 28:08. Neither team would land another attempt on target for the half, though Felix Lidenmark took a shot to end the half.

After shots off target by both teams, Sebastian Acosta's free kick found the net from distance, extending the lead to 2-0 in the 62^nd minute. Justin Tackett's unassisted goal just three minutes later would make it a one score game again, but while SAU had three more shots on goal before the end of the game, Ascenzo saved them all, securing the V-Hawks win.

Hamnstrom led all players with four shots, while Lopez had three with two on goal. Two different Bees had three shots. Ernesto Ascenzo (W, 6-3-6) recorded four saves, while Zach Bauer (L, 3-5-2) had 1.

The V-Hawks regular season finale is on Saturday, October 28 at Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.).
