Huge First Half Powers V-Hawks over Vikings

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team hosted a non-conference matchup against Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon, and captured a 4-0 victory. The V-Hawks improve to 3-1-3 on the season, while the Vikings fall to 0-4-1.

Ethan Stewart took the first on-goal attempt of the game, a header that was saved by Lawrence's Ethan Uribe, and LU would respond quickly, with a shot on goal at 12:58 by Zach Dale, saved by Ernesto Ascenzo. Aidan Greer, whose father is the head coach of the Vikings, put in a goal at 16:29, set up by Joaquin Eichhorn and Johan Hamnstrom. Hamnstrom followed that with another assist in the 30th minute, the goal scored by Ville Forsmark. Conner Erdmann kept the offense going, with an unassisted goal in the 38th minute, and Louison Poilpot found Felix Lidenmark in the 39th minute to extend the lead to 4-0 going into the break.

Ascenzo started the second half with another save, and while the V-Hawks managed another two shots on goal, neither would find the net. Nicolas Lopez's header would go wide at 72:44, and the match would then be called early because of lightning.

Hamnstrom led the V-Hawks with two assists, and two shots on goal, Sebastian Acosta took five shots, and four different V-Hawks scored. Eamon Rougvie took three shots with one on goal for the Vikings. Ernesto Ascenzo (W, 2-1-3) had two saves, and Ethan Uribe (L, 0-2-0) had six.

The V-Hawks return to action on Wednesday, September 20 as they host Saint Xavier University (Ill.) in their first CCAC conference match.
