V-Hawks Compete at Clarke, Bernstorf Finishes Third
GALENA, Ill. – The Viterbo University Men's Golf team finished in fifth place out of 11 teams at the Clarke University Fall Classic this weekend. The V-Hawks were tied for third place with Wheaton College after Day One, shooting 322, but slid to fifth on Day Two, shooting 327 for a total team score of 649, which is +73 over par.
Viterbo finished eight strokes behind Wheaton for fourth place and were two strokes ahead of North Park University in sixth place. Hawkeye Community College captured the team title, with a score of 622. They had a Day One score of 306, the best of all teams, and 316 on Day Two, the third best. Luke Galeazzi, Hawkeye Community College, was the individual champion.
Owen Bernstorf was the top V-Hawk performer on the weekend, finishing third with a score of 152 (74, 78, +8), just three strokes behind second place and five behind first place. 74 is the best round of Bernsdtorf's Viterbo career. Brice Klabunde improved four stokes from day one to two to finish 12th with a score of 160 (82, 78, +16). Nicholas Tennis shot 83 on both days to finish 28th at 166 (+22), Aaron Raabe finish tied for 34th by shooting 171 (83, 88, +28), and Noah Nelson was the final V-Hawk finisher in 59th place with a score of 197 (103, 94, +197).
The Viterbo B team finished ninth with a score of 698 (353, 345, +122). Sam Dobbins tied for 24th at 165 (81, 84, +21), Andy Odom shot 167 to tie for 29th (87, 80, +23), Brett Crary ties for 42 with a score of 173 (83, 90, +29), Gabe Rombalski was 58th at 193 (102, 91, +49), and Matt Wejrowski was the final finisher at 223 (105, 118, +79).
The V-Hawks continue their season September 18 and 19 at the UW-Eau Claire Frank Wrigglesworth Invite.
