Terry McKinney Named Men's and Women's Bowling Coach

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Athletics Department has officially announced Terry McKinney as the new head Men's and Women's Bowling coach. McKinney takes over for Jim Socha as the second Bowling coach in the programs' histories.

"Terry brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our bowling program," said Athletics Director Barry Fried. "He is passionate about the sport and excited to work with our student-athletes. I know he's very well respected throughout the bowling community and will do a great job leading our program."

McKinney has been a long-time staple of the La Crosse bowling community, including being a part of the UW-La Crosse 1985 National Collegiate Championship team. Following his collegiate playing career, he served as the Men's and Women's bowling coach at UWL for four years, leading the women's team to a 6th place finish at Nationals in 1990. Since then, he has been inducted to the La Crosse River Valley Bowling Association Hall Of Fame and is currently a member of the Professional Bowlers Association and an Amateur Staff member with Storm Products International.

"I am excited for the opportunity to work with talented collegiate bowlers," said McKiney. "We want to create a culture with the bowling program at Viterbo that elevates it to one of the leading opportunities for future collegiate bowlers."

Prior to joining the V-Hawks, McKinney coached private lessons, as well as running and organizing several local bowling tournaments and clinics. He also continues to bowl competitively throughout the Midwest.

"I also want to thank Jim Socha for his leadership of our bowling teams the last 14 years," continued Fried. "He deserves a lot of credit for starting our program from scratch in 2009. Our teams have been successful and Jim's leaving a strong foundation that I'm sure Terry will continue to build upon."

He received his B.S. in Elementary Education with minors in Mathematics and Social Studies from UWL and has owned and operated his own business, TJ's Flooring, since 1998.

McKinney officially began his duties on Monday, September 18.
