V-Hawks End Regular Season in Waldorf

WALDORF, Iowa – The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team wrapped up their regular season on Thursday night with a 56-71 loss to Waldorf University. The V-Hawks end the season at 15-12 (9-5 NSAA) while the Warriors sit at 8-18 (4-10 NSAA).

Colin Adams would be the first V-Hawks on the board with a layup at 18:29, but Waldorf responded with a run to go up 2-10 on a Khyle Washington layup. Robert Cunitz scored at 12:08 and assisted a Jack Monis jumper, but Waldorf kept pace and even after a Cunitz 3-pointer, would lead 11-20. Ben Olson set up Alex King for a three at 5:44, and after a pair of layups of his own, the V-Hawks would trail 21-29. One last Olson layup before the half left the score at 23-31.

Dakota Mannel started the second with a pair of free throws and an Olson steal led to a Monis layup to quickly close the gap to four points. But behind Tyree'on Johnson's layups, the Warriors built the lead back up to double digits. After a Mannel steal led to a Cunitz three, Waldorf went on another run to go up 36-54. Cole Crubel and Monis scored on multiple possessions to bring it back within 10, but the V-Hawks would get no close and Luke Spink's assist to Keegan Severn late brought the final score to 56-71.

Waldorf outshot Viterbo 49%-35% from the floor and out rebounded the V-Hawks 20-37. Viterbo hit 60% of their threes, but only took 10 attempts.

Cunitz led the V-Hawks with 11 points and three assists, while Monis added 10 points and four boards. Khalil Grayson led four Warriros in double-digits with 17 points, while Johnson had a 16-point, 11-rebounds double-double.

The V-Hawks and Warriors will matchup again on Tuesday, February 21 as Viterbo hosts Waldorf in the first round of the NSAA Conference tournament.
