Men's Basketball - Warriors Win Big Against Viterbo on Senior Night

The Waldorf men's basketball team closed out their regular season with a big conference win against Viterbo on senior night.

"I'm really proud of our team. We played well on both sides of the ball," Head Coach Nigel Jenkins stated. "It's a perfect way to send Ty Johnson out. He has had an outstanding career here in his two years. To end his final game at Hanson Fieldhouse with a win is icing on the cake."

Senior Tyree'on Johnson (Coon Rapids, MN) opened the night with a block and a quick layup.

The V-Hawks responded to tie the game before the Warriors score eight straight points. Khalil Grayson (SO/Milwaukee, WI) drain a three, Johnson added two, Justin Wiggins (SO/West Palm Beach, FL) made a three-throw, and Khyle Washington (JR/Atlanta, GA) made a layup.

Grayson and Fredery Cuello (JR/New York, NY) each score a three to go up 16-6.

After a Viterbo timeout, Zack Meyer (JR/Spring Hill, FL) drains a three and Washington made two free-throws. Johnson scored four points to close out the first half, the Warriors were up 31-23.

The V-Hawks started the second half with scoring four points before Johnson stopped the run. Noah Miller (SO/Forest City, IA) made a three.

Johnson scored six straight points to give the Warriors a 10-point lead. The V-Hawks responded with a three. Grayson made a three of his own, Washington added four points and Miller drained a three to extend the lead 52-35.

Back-to-back threes from Cuello and Miller gave the Warriors a 65-49 lead with less than six minutes remaining.

Grayson ended the game by scoring the last six points for the Warriors. The Warriors won 71-56.

"Now we have to rest up and be ready to go on the road to play at Viterbo on Tuesday. They are very tough to beat at home," Jenkins said.

Senior Johnson finished with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, with three assists and two blocks. Grayson had a team high of 17 points with six rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal. Miller added 16 points and Washington had 12 points and six assists.

The Warriors will be on the road to start postseason play at Viterbo on Tuesday, Feb. 21st starting at 7 p.m.
