V-Hawks Season Ends in National Pool Play

SIOUX CITY, Iowa. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team, the #14 overall seed in the NAIA Women's Volleyball National Tournament had their season come to an end on Friday evening, falling to Southern Oregon University, 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-15). The V-Hawks finish their season at 26-11, while the Raiders improve to 31-3.

Maddie Connor with the set to Jada Mitchell would open the match for the V-Hawks before Mitchell and Hailee Halverson would push forward with solid attacks. Coming from behind the Halverson and Mitchell duo would set up a block before Grace Peyron would take the kills to take a brief lead. Despite a kill by Connor the Raiders would take set one.

Looking to take an early lead Martina McGrath and Sadie Treptow would open the set with a strong block, before Mitchell would deliver three of the V-Hawks next four kills. On a four point run Martina McGrath would deliver a kill and a block with Izzy Jahr for a narrow lead. With the teams volleying for the lead Mikaela Marquardt would serve up an ace though SOU would claim the final three points.

The V-Hawks capitalizing on Raider errors Cailie Kowal would find Halverson for a kill keeping a close score. Jayden Smith delivering an ace would keep the V-Hawks in the match, followed by two kills by Halverson and a Mitchell kill. In an attempt to make a comeback McGrath would take the final kill for the V-Hawks.

Mitchell and Halverson led the V-Hawks with 10 kills each, while Kowal and Connor supplied 16 and 14 assists respectively, and McCabe took 15 digs. Hannah Stadstad led the Raiders with 12 kills.
