V-Hawks Sweep Fighting Saints on Senior Day
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team took down St. Francis University (IL) in three sets (25-13, 25-14, 25-18) on senior day. The V-Hawks rise to 20-9 (CCAC -0) while the Fighting Saints fall to 16-16 (CCAC 7-5).
Kenidi McCabe opened the match with a service ace, followed by a kill by Jada Mitchell from Maddie Connor. The V-Hawks would go on a seven point run led by Sadie Treptow and Izzy Jahr, while Connor was on service. Senior Martina McGrath and Jahr would supply a block setting the V-Hawks up 11-4. Hailee Halverson and Mitchell would post up for back to back blocks, competed with a Mitchell kill to follow. Off a free ball McGrath would take the attack and claim two kills to end the first set.
Starting from behind the V-Hawks would fight their way back with a six point run with kills from Halverson, McGrath, and Mitchell. Claiming the lead Michell would clinch her 1,000 kill of her V-Hawk career, with four points left in the second set, Connor would find McGrath and Halverson, completing the set, Connor would find Mitchell for the kill.
Halverson and Mitchell opened set three with a block. Treptow and McGrath would find the opportunity and make another block taking the lead back over SFU. Connor would once again find Mitchell for two points, while Cailie Kowal would collect two service aces. McGrath would find placement for the final kill for the V-Hawks, claiming the win over the Fighting Saints.
Mitchell led the V-Hawks with 17 kills, while Connor supplied 22 assists and Kowal with 14. McCabe took 21 digs, Riley Hungate led the Fighting Saints with 26 kills.
The V-Hawks return to action Tuesday, November 5 at Governors State.
