McGrath Leads V-Hawks in Win
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team took down Judson University (25-21, 25-18, 25-15). The V-Hawks rise to 19-9 (CCAC 11-0) while the Eagles fall to 16-11 (CCAC 8-3).
Cailie Kowal would open the match for the V-Hawks with an ace, followed by a kills by Hailee Halverson set up by Kowal. The V-Hawks would take the lead early with back to back kills by Martina McGrath set up by Kowal and Maddie Connor. Sadie Treptow would take the final kill of the set, putting the V-Hawks up 1-0.
The V-Hawks would be strong opening with a block by Jada Mitchell and Treptow, followed by a kill by Mitchell. McGrath working hard supplied three kills on the V-Hawks four point run early in the second set. With Kowal on the service the V-Hawks would claim the final three points of set two with kills by Grace Peyron and Halverson.
Halverson's kill opened up the third set, from Connor, quickly followed by Mitchell with another. The V-Hawks set out on a four point run fueled by McGrath with a kill and a solo block, completed with an ace by Connor. Seizing the opportunity Mitchell and Izzy Jahr would take two more kills for the V-Hawks. In the final points of the match Freshman Jillian Pergande would supply a block, sealing the deal.
McGrath led the V-Hawks with 10 kills, while Kowal supplied 16 assists and Connor with 11. McCabe took 17 digs, Alyssa Gerzel led the Eagles with 12 kills.
The V-Hawks return to action Saturday, November for their final regular season home game as they take on St. Francis at home for Senior Day.
