V-Hawks Remain on Top in Conference Matchup

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team swept Saint Xavier University Friday evening in a thrilling three sets (26-24, 25-22, 25-12). The V-Hawks rise to 16-9 (CCAC 9-0) while the Cougars fall  to  12-10 (CCAC 8-1).

The V-Hawks would begin the match with a volley for the lead with kills by Hailee Halverson and Jada Mitchell. In the 12th point the V-Hawks would tie up the match looking to take the lead though they would continue to battle for the lead matching point for point six more times charging towards set point, fueled by Izzy Jahr and Cailie Kowal. With the match sitting at 24-24 Maddie Connor set up Halverson for the 25th point followed by a Mitchell kill claiming the first set.

Mitchell would collect the first kill of the second set from Kowal, followed closely behind by Jahr. After falling behind midway, Sadie Treptow would boost the V-Hawks in the lead on the 21st point. The Mitchell-Kowal duo would strike again taking set two with the final two points.

The V-Hawks, hungry for the win would come out in the third set on two three point runs led by Martina McGrath  and a block by Mitchell and Grace Peyron. McGrath and Peyron pushing to the finish with a block, followed by Jahr with the kill, clinching the match, the V-Hawks remaining on top in the CCAC.

Mitchell led the V-Hawks with 15 kills, while Kowal supplied 18 assists and Connor with 17. McCabe took 17 digs, while the Cougars Connie LeBel led with 14 kills and Kaleigh Ritter contributed 29 assists.

The V-Hawks return to action Wednesday, October 23rd, where they will take on Governors State at home for Think Pink Night.
