
V-Hawks Sweep Crimson Wave
WHITING, Ind. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyabll team sweeped Calumet College of St Joseph (25-22, 25-18, 25-17) on Monday evening. The #15 V-Hawks rise to 15-9 (CCAC 7-0), while the Crimson Wave fall to 0-18 (CCAC 0-9).
Jada Mitchell would open the match for the V-Hawks with a kill set up by Cailie Kowal, followed by a four point run led by Kenidi McCabe on service. The V-Hawks would fall a few points behind though another four point run ending with a block by Grace Peyron and Mitchell to claim the lead on the 14th point. Mitchell would take VU to set point, where Kowal would set up Izzy Jahr for the kill to take set one.
Casey Frankland's kill from Maddie Connor would send off the V-Hawks for five points taking the lead early in the second set. VU carrying the momentum took another four points with kills by Hailee Halverson, Mia Quist, and Mitchell, while backed up by an ace by McCabe. The Mitchell-Kowal duo would strike again claiming the final two points of the set.
The V-Hawks were in a battle for the lead from the beginning of the set, Peyron taking the first kill of the set. Frankland from Kowal would send VU into double digits. Viterbo pulling away in the lead while Mitchell and Frankland took a block, while Jahr sent the V-Hawks to match point, followed by Mitchell taking the final kill ending the match, with a set score of 25-17.
Mitchell led the V-Hawks with 17 kills, while Kowal supplied 22 assists, closely followed by Connor with 18. McCabe took 14 digs, CCSJ's Yanilette Diaz led with 13 assists while Ivana Quinones added 33 assists.
The V-Hawks return to action Tuesday, October 15 on the road at Indiana Northwest.
