V-Hawks Fall to No.1 Northwestern
ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team fell to No. 1 Northwestern Wednesday evening in three sets (25-12, 25-21, 25-16). The V-Hawks fall to 14-9 (CCAC 6-1) while the Red Raiders rise to 17-0 (CCAC 6-0).
Sadie Treptow opened the match for the V-Hawks with a kill set up by Maddie Connor. The V-Hawks would look to gain on the Red Raiders with a block by Jada Mitchell and Grace Peyron. Mitchell would take the kill putting the V-Hawks in double digits, though it would not be enough as Northwestern took set one.
The V-Hawks would begin set two with a four point deficit until Peyron would take the kill from Cailie Kowal. In response, leading the charge on a four point run Kenidi McCabe would serve up a kill and an ace. Martina McGrath and Izzy Jahr would supply a block taking the lead. The V-Hawks would take one more kill by Hailee Halverson before a block by NWC would end the set.
Treptow would take the first kill of the third set leading the V-Hawks 3-0 to open. In a battle for the lead McGrath would supply a kill claiming the lead, followed by Halverson from Connor. With a big jump McGrath and Treptow would force one last block of the match.
McGrath led the V-Hawks with 6 kills, while Kowal supplied 12 assists. McCabe took 26 digs while the Red Raiders Jazlin Douma led with 14 kills and Logan Miller led with 16 assists.
The V-Hawks return to action Monday, October 14th on the road for a matchup against Calumet.
