V-Hawks Victorious Over Trolls
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team struck down Trinity Christan College (IL) on Thursday evening in three sets (25-21, 25112, 25-9). The V-Hawks rise at 14-8 (CCAC 6-0) while the Tigers fall to 6-13 (CCAC 2-3).
The V-Hawks opened the match with a block by Sadie Treptow and Jada Mitchell. Izzy Jahr would send the V-Hawks into double digits off a set from Maddie Connor. The Trolls would keep close on the V-Hawks heels for the duration of the set though Martina McGrath would jump on the kill to end set one 25-21.
McCabe would take the first service for VU with a three point run including an ace. Jahr would once again strike for the 10th point of the set for the V-Hawks, and would collect another kill two points later. The V-Hawks would go on two five point runs with back to back kills from McGrath and a kill from Jahr, followed by two aces off Mikaela Marquardt services.
In the final set of the match the V-Hawks held the trolls to nine points, starting off strong with a kill from Hailee Halverson from Connor, continuing with a McCabe ace. On another five point run for the V-Hawks Connor would take her own kill in a sneaky attack, followed shortly by Jalen Hinzman with a kill. Mia Quist would take to the offensive and would take the final attack of the match with a kill.
Jahr led the V-Hawks with 9 kills, while Connor supplied 19. McCabe took 16 digs while the Trolls Aolani Cannon led with 6 kills and Sharide Sykes led with 11 assists.
The V-Hawks return to action Wednesday, October 2nd on the road for a matchup against Northwestern.
