Mitchell Fuels V-Hawk Win
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball swept Indiana University South Bend on as they completed alumni day (25-10, 25-10, 25-15). The V-Hawks rise at 12-8 (CCAC 4-0) while the Titans fall to 0-18 (CCAC 0-3).
The V-Hawks took control of the first set early on with a big block from Jada Mitchell and Sadie Treptow. Izzy Jahr from Maddie Connor produced the first kill in double digits, followed by a service ace by Mikaela Marquardt. The V-Hawks would continue to widen the lead. Mitchel with a kill from Cailie Kowal would set the V-Hawks up with set point, taking set one on a block by Grace Peyron and Martina McGrath.
Mitchell's first kill of set two would put VU on the board, where they would carry their momentum from the first set in three to four point runs. Jahr would once again put the V-Hawks in double digits for set two. McGrath would take the final kill of the second set putting the V-Hawks up 2-0 of the match.
Viterbo's first point of the third set would come from a Treptow-McGrath block, backed up by a Mitchell kill from Connor. Freshman Jayden Smith would deliver a service ace for the V-Hawks, while later in the set Jillian Pergande and Mitchell would put up another block. Mcrath, for the third set in a row of the day would deliver the final blow with a kill from Connor.
Mitchell led the V-Hawks with 11 kills (.647), while Kowal supplied 19 assists, and Connor had 14. McCabe took 11 digs while Marquardt took 9. Ryleigh Grott led the Titans with 6 kills, and Brynn Lake had 8 assists.
The V-Hawks return to action Tuesday September 24th as they take on Olivet Nazarene.
