V-Hawks Sweep the Fightin Saints on the Road

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball sweep St. Francis University (Ill.) (25-18, 25-22, 25-17) on Tuesday evening. The V-Hawks rise to 9-7 (CCAC 2-0) while the Fightin Saints fall to 8-6 (CCAC 1-1).

The V-Hawks would start set one from behind on a series of errors, though Sadie Treptow would end the five point run with a kill from Maddie Connor. Hailee Halverson's service ace would tie up the set for the V-Hawks followed by a kill by Izzy Jahr to take the lead. Shortly after Jada Mitchell and Grace Peyron would have a block stretching the lead. Halverson would return the ball to the V-Hawks with a kill from Cailie Kowal and would end the set herself with another service ace.

Mitchell would open up the second set for VU with a kill from Kowal. The Fightin Saints would close the gap the V-Hawks created at the 12-12 mark in the set. Halverson with an ace would reclaim the lead for the V-Hawks with a kill from Mitchell to put the team in motion once again. Martina McGrath and Jahr's block would push the V-Hawks into double digits. Mitchell from Kowal would be the last kill as Viterbo would take set two.

The V-Hawks third set opened slowly with a steady lead, the Jahr-Kowal duo would take points four and five for the V-Hawks while holding the Fightin Saints to one point. Mitchell and Peyron's block followed by kills from Halverson and Mitchell would surge VU into the last few points of the match. McGrath with a deadly kill assisted by Kowal would seal the V-Hawks second conference win of the season.

Mitchell led the V-Hawks attack with 12 kills, while Kowal led with 18 assists and Connor with 17. McCabe would take 22 digs for the V-Hawks, with Check not far behind with 16. The Fighting Saints Taylor Connolly would lead with 7 kills, and Kaylie Sippel with 15 assists.

The V-Hawks return to action Friday September 13th as they take on St. Ambrose (Iowa) in conference play.
