V-Hawks Sweep Eagles in Conference Opener
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team swept Judson University in their home conference opener (25-19, 25,21, 25,15) on Thursday evening. The V-Hawks rise to 6-6 (CCAC 1-0) while the Eagles fall to 3-2 (CCAC 0-1).
Hailee Halverson opened the match for the V-Hawks with a kill from Maddie Connor. The V-Hawks remined in the narrow lead until they went on a four point run supplemented by a kill by Jada Mitchell from Connor. A Block by Sadie Treptow and Mitchell would give the V-Hawks set one of the match.
The V-Hawks would once again take the first points of set two with kills from Mitchell and Grace Peyron both assisted by Connor. Following a five point VU run the Eagles would work their way to close the gap. A sneaky kill by Cailie Kowal would set the V-Hawks up for set point, put down by a Peyron kill, ending set two 25-21.
Treptow would attack lights out to set the V-Hawks up 8-15. Freshman Jalen Hinzman would take her first three Viterbo kills in a row while on a run. Martina McGrath would take the final kill of the match for the V-Hawks.
Halverson and Treptow would lead the V-Hawks in kills with seven each, while Connor would have 16 assists and Kowal with 15. Kenidi McCabe continued to add to her 1500th dig by supplying the V-Hawks with 12 more. Jaclyn Riedl led the Eagles in kills with 11 and Reese McCutchan had 29 assists.
The V-Hawks return to action Friday September 6th at home as they host Jamestown in the V-Hawk Fall Invitational.
