V-Hawks Earn Road Sweep Over Waldorf

FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team, ranked #5 in the most recent NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, swept Waldorf University (Iowa) on the road, 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-18). The V-Hawks improve to 20-3 (7-0 NSAA), while the Warriors fall to 10-8 (0-7 NSAA).

Viterbo jumped out to an 11-3 lead to start the match, with a spread out attack from Kenzie Winker, Jada Mitchell, and a block from Martina McGrath and Marissa Kleman. After a timeout, Waldorf went an a short 5-2 run, but McGrath ended the run, and a Mitchell-Grace Peyron block and a Grace Rohde ace helped extend the lead to 18-9. McGrath had two more late blocks, one with Winker and another with Kleman, leading up to her set winning kill.-

The Warriors would be the ones to jump out to a lead in the second set, going up 5-0, and then 8-2. Winker's kill would spark the V-Hawks scoring, as a 10-4 run highlighted by a Rohde ace and multiple kills from McGrath and Mitchell gave Viterbo the lead. While WU would tie the match at 17-17, Viterbo ended the set on aa 8-1 run, with Rohde leading the charge with three kills.

The third set started much closer, with six ties by the time the score reached 10-10. However, Sadie Treptow's kill broke the tie and started a run that would give the V-Hawks a 17-10 lead, with the help of two Winker kills and a number of Waldorf errors. The teams would trade points late, as McGrath and Winker led the offense, and Maddie Connor added a kill of her own, and Viterbo won 25-18.

Winker led all players with 13 kills to go with her 14 team-high 14 digs, while McGrath had 12 on .455 hitting and five blocks, and Rodhe posted 10. Connor dished 23 assists and Cailie Kowal added 19. Kenidi McCabe also contributed 13 digs.

The V-Hawks return to action on Friday, October 13 as they take on Trinity Christian University (Ill.) and Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) on the first day of the 2023 V-Hawk Fall Classic.
