V-Hawks Top Blue Hawks; Extend Win Streak to 11

DICKINSON, ND – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team, ranked #7 in the most recent NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, earned a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-23) victory at Dickinson State University (ND) Thursday night. The V-Hawks improve to 24-6 (11-0 NSAA) and extend their winning streak to 11, while the Blue Hawks drop to 4-20 (2-9 NSAA).

The V-Hawks built an early 7-2 lead off a Marissa Kleman solo block, and back-to-back Kleman kills brought that lead to 11-5. Despite kills from Mariah Calkins and Cailie Kowal, the Blue Hawks closed the gap to 15-13, but consecutive Kenidi McCabe service aces gave Viterbo some breathing room. Kleman and Jada Mitchell put down a block to go up 22-15, and Mitchell's kill ended the first set 25-18.

The second set saw the V-Hawks go up 10-3, in large part to Kenzie Winker's kills and block. That lead grew to as much as 16-7 on Grace Rohde's kill, before Dickinson put together a 6-2 run and a 5-0 run late to even the score at 20-20. Kleman, Winker, and Rohde each earned a kill, and a bad set from Dickinson gave the V-Hawks a 25-21 set victory.

Mitchell, Rohde, Kleman, and Winker each recorded early kills, but despite the spread out attack, the third set started much closer than the previous two. Grace Peyron was able to record a pair of kills, but Dickinson still took the lead 15-17, and led by as much as 22-18. Maddie Connor's ace, a Winker kill, and multiple Blue Hawk errors fueled a 7-1 run to give Viterbo the set win and match sweep.

Winker led all players with 14 kills while hitting .394, and Rodhe broke double digits with 11 of her own. Lauryn Sobasky recorded 24 assists, Kowal added 13, while Winker and Adrianna Reinhart each posted 13 digs. Calkins led the lead with a solo block and two block assists.

Mackenna Johnson led the Blue Hawks with 10 kills, Bailey Pearcy had a game-high 29 assists, Jenna Swope led with 16 digs, and Madi Wahl and Pearcy each had three blocks.

The V-Hawks continue NSAA play on Friday, October 28 at Valley City State University (ND).
