V-Hawks go Undefeated at Onalaska Days Inn Fall Classic

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Viterbo Women's Volleyball team, ranked #8 in the most recent NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, competed against St. Francis (Ind.), who is currently receiving votes in the most recent NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, on day two of the Onalaska Days Inn & Suites Fall Classic. The V-Hawks defeated the Cougars 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25, 13). Viterbo advances to 21-6 overall and 8-0 in conference play while St. Francis drops to 14-12 overall and 7-5 in league play. 

The two teams traded points early on in set one to tie 9-9. The V-Hawks took a massive lead putting up 11 points in a row, with 4 kills by Kenzie Winker and 2 block assists by Mariah Calkins, forcing two timeouts by the Cougars. Three errors by Viterbo brought the score to 20-12 with the V-Hawks leading. A service ace by Adrianna Reinhart, who last night became the 5th player in Viterbo history to reach 2,000 digs, helped the V-Hawks stretch their lead 22-12. A kill by Jada Mitchell and two errors by St. Francis ended set one 25-12.

Set two started off similar with the teams tieing at 11-11 with multiple kills by the V-Hawks and services aces by Winker and Maddie Connor. A kill by Addison Shafer helped the Cougars take the lead 14-16. After a Viterbo timeout, the V-Hawks tied the game 20-20 with a kill by Grace Rohde. Calkins and Winker added kills to force a St. Francis timout at 23-21. Libero Adrianna Reinhart ended set two with a service ace, 25-21.

Marissa Kleman added two block assists and three kills to help the V-Hawks take the lead early on 10-3 in set three. The Cougars started to gain momentum with two kills by Hannah Sweeny, but couldn't keep up with the Viterbo and the V-Hawks stretched their lead 18-11 with a kill by Grace Peyron. St. Francis would put two more points on the board before Viterbo went on a seven-point streak to win the final set, 25-13.

V-Hawk setter Lauren Sobasky finished the game with 18 assists while Kenzie Winker added 12 kills. Adrinna Reinhart recorded 9 digs followed by Kenidi McCabe with 8. Jada Mitchell led the team with 9 block assists followed by Marissa Kleman with 4. 

Hannah Sweeny with the Cougars recorded 6 kills while teammate Alexa Sparks contributed 16 assists and 11 total digs. Maile Steckelberg added 12 digs for the Cougars. Ellie Ferris led the team with 4 block assists.

The V-Hawks will recognize their graduating seniors and compete at home on Friday, October 21 against Presentation at 6:00PM CST.
