V-Hawks Capture Another Sweep on the Road

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team, ranked eighth in the most recent NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, swept Presentation College (S.D.) 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-21) on Friday afternoon. The V-Hawks improve to 15-6, and 5-0 in North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) play, while the Saints fall to 4-15 (1-4 NSAA).

In the opening set, the host Saints would go up early 11-5 before Jada Mitchell's solo block sparked a 6-0 run, highlighted by a Cailie Kowal kill and a Mariah Calkins-Adrianna Reinhart block. After trading volleys, Vitebro would take their first lead of the day at 17-16 on a Mitchell-Martina McGrath block. Kenzie Winker's kill from Grace Rohde started another late run, and the V-Hawks would take the first set 25-19 on a Rohde kill from Lauryn Sobasky.

Presentation would also start strong in the second set, getting up 8-3. McGrath's kill from Kowal started a 5-0 run that included a Rohde-Mitchell block, and Marissa Kleman recorded a kill and block to help extend the lead to 17-13. Mitchell and Winker would help close the set with five kills between them, and a Mitchell block to end it 25-19.

The teams would trade early 3-and 4-points runs, leaving the game tied 10-10 after a Taylor Larson ace. The Saints would go up 18-14, but the V-Hawks put together a 7-0 run fueled by three aces by Kowal. Winker recorded two more kills, Presentation had multiple errors, and Maddie Connor ended the set and match with one final ace.

Winker led all players with 13 kills, Sobasky had a game-high 24 assists, Reinhart (17) and Kenidi McCabe (11) each had double digit digs, and Mitchell tied a career high of six total blocks (one solo, five assisted).

Grace Tobin led the Saints with 11 kills, Sydney Miller had 18 assists, Laura Babcock recored 20 digs, and Kerstin Knopik had five total blocks.

The V-Hawks return to action Thursday, October 6 as the host (RV) Dakota State (S.D.) at 7 PM.
