Women's Volleyball season ends at NAIA National Tournament

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team played their second game at the NAIA Women's Volleyball National Tournament on Wednesday. The V-Hawks faced Concordia (Neb.) and lost 2-3 (25-22, 20-25, 18-25, 25-22, 11-15).

Both teams were fighting to get the advantage early in set one. The set saw eleven tied scores but despite the series of ties, the V-Hawks never lost the lead throughout the set. The V-Hawks were able to pull ahead after a Kenidi McCabe ace and a service error and attack error committed by Concordia. The V-Hawks won the set, 25-22. Concordia got the early set two lead but back-to-back kills from Maya Roberts and Miah Garant, followed by a block from Katie Frohmader and Garant put the V-Hawks up 5-4. Concordia took the lead back, causing a five-point deficit for Viterbo and leading to a V-Hawk timeout. Viterbo was able to go on a slight run at the end of the set, but Concordia took set two, 25-20. Concordia led nearly all of set three but the V-Hawks were able to hold them at set point for five straight points until ultimately dropping the set 18-25.

Concordia led 7-1 early in set four but a kill from Frohmader, Roberts, and a pair from Grace Rohde put the V-Hawks right back in it, down only 7-9. Kenidi McCabe followed that up with a service ace after a Bulldog timeout to put Viterbo within one. Later on in the set, a pair of kills from Roberts and Frohmader gave the V-Hawks the 17-15 lead. Concordia came out of the timeout and went on a 5-1 run to go up 20-18 on Viterbo. Maya Roberts swung for a kill out of a Viterbo timeout to start a 4-0 run to put the V-Hawks up 22-20. Grace Rohde's two kills in a row secured the set four win for Viterbo. The V-Hawks got the 5-1 lead in set five but Concordia pushed for a comeback to win the match.

The V-Hawks end the season with an impressive 39-2 record. They set the program record with a 32-game win streak and cruised through the season as the No. 2 team in the NAIA for most of the season. Congratulations to our Viterbo Women's Volleyball team on a historic season!
