V-Hawks remain No. 2 in latest poll and undefeated in NSAA play

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Viterbo Women's Volleyball team (26-1) remains at No. 2 this week in the latest edition of the NAIA Coaches' Poll which came out this afternoon. The V-Hawks picked up four of the 21 first-place votes, with the remaining 17 going to No. 1 Jamestown University. The V-Hawks also began the second half of NSAA play last night with a 3-1 win over Waldorf University (7-12).  

The V-Hawks cruised to a set one win, 25-11, with 18 kills and only two errors on 33 attempts (.485) as a team while holding the Warriors to seven kills and seven errors on 33 attempts. Waldorf came out hot in set two, scoring seven of the first eight points to build a lead that the V-Hawks could never quite overcome. The V-Hawks had 16 kills in the set, but the Warrior defense held them to hitting .163% and took the set 28-26. Viterbo got back on track in set three and utilized 16 kills in 31 attempts to seal the set three win 25-15. Set four saw both teams trading points early with neither team leading by more than three points. Tied at 14, back-to-back service runs from Kenidi McCabe and Cassidy Spies allowed the V-Hawks to go on a 11-2 run to seal the set and match victory.

Miah Garant and Kenzie Winker led the V-Hawks with 14 kills each, followed by Katie Frohmader with 13. Garant also contributed a team-high seven blocks on the night. Abbey Johnson dished out 24 assists while Lauryn Sobasky added 23. 

The Viterbo Women's Volleyball team will be back in action on this weekend at the Grand View University Tournament. The V-Hawks will face off against host, No. 24 Grand View on Friday night at 7:00 PM CDT. On Saturday, Viterbo will see No. 19 Columbia College at 10:00 AM followed by No. 17 Montana Tech at 1:00 PM.
