Women's Volleyball defeats Comets, moves on to NSAA Championship

MAYVILLE, N.D. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team was hosted by the Mayville State Comets for the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference semifinal game on Tuesday night. The V-Hawks defeated Mayville in five sets (25-27, 25-22, 17-25, 25-21, 18-16).

Despite being down in the first set, the V-Hawks were able to rally to make it close, narrowly losing the set 25-27 after going on a 6-0 run. Viterbo was able to secure a comeback in set two, winning 25-22. Set three caused for an early 8-2 lead by the Comets. Attack errors hurt Viterbo in set three and the Comets secured the set win, 17-25. The V-Hawks achieved their best hitting percentage in set four (.261) with 18 total kills to win, 25-21, to force a set five. Viterbo won set five 18-16 on a kill from Kenzie Winker (SO/Holmen, Wis.).

Grace Rohde (FR/Winona, Minn.) led Viterbo in kills with 18. She was followed by Winker and Maya Roberts (SR/Watertown, Wis.), each with 14. Lauryn Sobasky (JR/Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) tallied 40 assists, while Abbey Johnson (SO/Brodhead, Wis.) had 26. Adrianna Reinhart (JR/Caledonia, Minn.) led the team with 36 digs.

As a team, the V-Hawks had 75 kills, compared to Mayville State's 66, respectively. Viterbo also had 73 total assists and four service aces throughout the game.

The V-Hawk Women's Volleyball team will travel to No. 15 Bellevue for the NSAA Championship game on Saturday, April 10. Game time is to be determined. Follow the action on our website or by following us on social media.
