Women's Volleyball earns its sixth sweep of the spring with win over Waldorf

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team (9-6) won in straight sets (25-14, 25-21, 25-16), against Waldorf University (4-13) Tuesday night. Viterbo is currently third place in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference standings.

Aggressive serving by Viterbo helped them to take an early lead in set one against Waldorf. Viterbo had two aces in the ten points of the game. A kill by Katie Frohmader (Sr. - Fort Atkinson, Wis.) followed by a service run from Adrianna Reinhart (Jr. - Caledonia, Minn.) put the V-Hawks up 11-7. Viterbo capitalized on a pair of warrior errors giving them a comfortable 18-12 lead. Viterbo was then able to use another Reinhart service run to extend the lead to nine points. A kill from Frohmader gave Viterbo the set. Viterbo held Waldorf to a .091 hitting percentage, while hitting an impressive .389 as a team. The V-Hawks had 16 kills on 36 swings and committed only two hitting errors the entire set.

Set two started with a four-point service run from Jade Putz (Sr. - Manchester, Iowa), which included back-to-back aces. Viterbo capitalized on unforced errors committed by the Warriors giving them an 11-5 lead. The Warriors pulled within four but couldn't gain enough momentum. Viterbo took set two 25-21. The V-Hawks continued to be an offensive presence hitting .231 while keeping Waldorf under .100 for the second consecutive set. Frohmader and Grace Rohde (Fr. - Winona, Minn.) ended set two with six kills each.

Set three started out even with both teams going point for point. At 4-5, Lauryn Sobasky (Jr. - Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) went on a eight-point service run giving Viterbo an 11-5 lead. The Warriors answered back with a string of points to cut the Viterbo lead to four points. A kill by Frohmader sparked another V-Hawk run and extended their lead to nine points. A kill from Kenzie Winker (So. - Holmen, Wis.) followed by a kill from Frohmader ended set three 25-16. Viterbo continued their dominant offensive presence in the third hitting .276.

VU Leaders: Maya Roberts (Sr. - Watertown, Wis.) 11 kills, Abbey Johnson (So. - Brodhead, Wis.) 16 assists, Reinhart 11 digs, Putz 3 service aces.
