By Katie Frohmader (SR/Fort Atkinson, Wis.), Athletics Communications Intern

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo Women's Volleyball team (9-6) continued their dominant spring season on Saturday afternoon at R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium. Three seniors- Chloe Jakscht (SR/East Troy, Wis.), Rekha Drevlow (SR/Lake Mills, Wis.), and Jade Putz (SR/Manchester, Iowa)- were honored before the match for their contributions to the program. The V-Hawks topped conference opponent Dakota State (12-7) in four sets, 25-19, 25-22, 21-25, and 25-14.

The V-Hawks came out swinging in set one, scoring 15 of their 25 points on kills with only five hitting errors (.270). Tied at 14, a Dakota State serving error gave the V-Hawks a much-needed push to the finish and they outscored the Trojans 11-5 to close out the set.

The Trojans played much cleaner volleyball in set two, hitting 17 kills with eight errors, but it was not enough to top the V-Hawks who hit .320 in the set on 10 kills. After beginning the set in a 3-9 deficit, the V-Hawks were able to rally back to tie the game at 14 once again. From there, it was a much closer contest, but the V-Hawks were able to string together two small runs to close out the game 25-22.

Set three was another neck-and-neck set, but the V-Hawk offense stammered a bit, hitting only eight kills with six errors (.061). Viterbo was able to pull within one point late in the set, but consecutive errors from the V-Hawks allowed the Trojans to come out on top in set three.

The V-Hawks were much more efficient in set four, hitting 13 kills on five errors (.286), but the Trojans kept the set close at the beginning. Tied at 12, Jade Putz went on a small serving run that gave the V-Hawks a momentum boost. The Trojans were able to side out on a V-Hawk error, but another strong serving run by V-Hawk setter Lauryn Sobasky (JR/Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) pushed Viterbo to the finish line, winning 25-14.

Maya Roberts (SR/Watertown, Wis.) led the V-Hawks with 17 kills, followed by Kenzie Winker (SO/Holmen, Wis.) with 13. Abbey Johnson (SO/Brodhead, Wis.) dished out a team-high 23 assists while Adrianna Reinhart (JR/Caledonia, Minn.) added 13 digs. The V-Hawks are back in action at R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium on Tuesday when they host Waldorf University (4-13). First serve is scheduled for 7 pm. Follow the action online or by following us on social media.
