V-Hawks Earn Two Sweeps in Double-Header on the Road

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team (7-6) continued their spring season winning streak last week against Presentation College (4-14). The V-Hawks faced the Saints in back-to-back matches, winning both 3-0.

Game 1:

  • After trailing in set one early, a kill from Maya Roberts (SR/Watertown, Wis.) tied the set at 10. From there, the V-Hawks outscored the Saints 15-7 to close set one 25-17.
  • The V-Hawks and Saints traded points early again in set two but Viterbo hit 17 kills while only committing three errors (.467) to take set two 25-13.
  • Viterbo started stronger in set three, getting out to an early three-point lead. Their lead would continue to grow, as the Saints were never able to overcome the V-Hawks momentum, taking the set 25-18.
  • The V-Hawks hit .359 for the set, totaling 48 kills on 92 attempts while holding the Saints to a .088 hitting percentage.
  • Maya Roberts and Katie Frohmader led the V-Hawks with 10 kills each. Abbey Johnson (SO/Brodhead, Wis.) collected 24 assists while Adrianna Reinhart (JR/Caledonia, Minn.) added 11 digs.

Game 2:

  • The Saints brought much more energy into game two on the day. After trailing by five points midway through the first set, the Saints were able to tie the game at 19. Back-to-back kills by Katie Frohmader got the V-Hawks back on track, and back-to-back aces by Adrianna Reinhart sealed the set one victory, 25-19 for Viterbo.
  • The V-Hawks were much stronger in set two, starting the game on a 12-4 run, capped off by back-to-back kills from Grace Rohde (FR/Winona, Minn.). From there, Viterbo was able to cruise to a 25-17 victory.
  • Set three had a similar feel to set two as the V-Hawks raced out to a 5-1 lead. The Saints were able to close the gap later in the set, coming within one at 19-18, but the V-Hawks were able to erase their momentum, winning 25-22.
  • Viterbo hit .210 for the match, collecting 43 kills compared to Presentation's .085 hitting percentage on 29 kills.
  • Maya Roberts led the V-Hawks with 13 kills, followed by Kenzie Winker (SO/Holmen, Wis.) with 10 kills. Abbey Johnson dished out 16 assists and Jade Putz (SR/Manchester, Iowa) contributed a team-high 13 digs.

The Viterbo Women's Volleyball team will be back in action at R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium on Friday night against #12 Bellevue University (11-2). First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM CT. Follow the action on our website or by following us on social media.
