Roberts earns her 1,000 career kill in V-Hawk win

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team kicked off the spring portion of their schedule on Friday night at R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium. The V-Hawks defeated Dickinson State in three sets (25-19, 25-12, 25-18). Maya Roberts (Sr. - Watertown, Wis.) scored her 1,000 career kill in the final point of the game to seal the victory.

The V-Hawks went on a 4-0 run to start the game, after starting with early kills from both Katie Frohmader (Sr. - Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and Roberts. Viterbo maintained the lead in set one and dominated set two, leaving Dickinson State in a 14-point deficit at one point. Set three saw more lead changes, but Viterbo ultimately ended up securing the 25-18 win.

Viterbo had a total of 43 kills in the matchup and committed only 8 hitting errors. They finished the night with a .380 hitting percentage. The V-Hawks were solid on defense with 42 digs and nine blocks throughout.

Maya Roberts led the way in kills for the V-Hawks with 15, hitting .538 on the night. Kenzie Winker (So. - Holmen, Wis.) followed behind Roberts with eight kills of her own. Abbey Johnson (So. - Brodhead, Wis.) had her first night back with the V-Hawks after an injury and tallied 22 assists and five digs. Mariah Calkins (Jr. - Sun Prairie, Wis.) and Rekha Drevlow (Sr. - Lake Mills, Wis.) shared a team-high four blocks each.

The Viterbo Women's Volleyball team (3-6) will remain home tomorrow to face Valley City State at 12:00 p.m. Follow the action on our website or by following us on social media.
