LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team squared off against the Mayville State University Comets on Wednesday night. In their lone game at the Varsity Athletics Center this fall, the V-Hawks fell 3-1 (14-25, 25-20, 23-25, 23-25).

The V-Hawks were consistent in their offense by posting 64 total kills compared to Mayville State's 48. However, errors plagued the V-Hawks in all 4 sets as they racked up 31 total.

After shaking off the rust in the first set, the V-Hawks settled in and showed both grit and heart as they battled their way through the remaining three sets. Maya Roberts (Sr. - Watertown, Wis.) led the way for the V-Hawks with 20 of the team's 64 kills. Kenzie Winker (So. - Holmen, Wis.) and Katie Frohmader (Sr. - Fort Atkinson, Wis.) each contributed 14 kills. On the defensive side, Adrianna Reinhart (Jr. - Caledonia, Minn.) came up with 16 of the team's 68 total digs, and Jade Putz (Sr. - Manchester, Iowa) was not far behind with 15 digs in the match.

The third set put the V-Hawks to the test. Down 21-24 the V-Hawks held strong for two thrilling points before Mayville State closed out the set 25-23. Despite losing their momentum and going down 1-2, the V-Hawks never gave up and came back from down 15-20 at one point to tie the fourth set at 23. However, Mayville State was once again able to regain their momentum late in another set and closed out the match.

The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team does not play again until March due to the split season. For more updates on Viterbo Athletics, follow us on our social media and check out our website, viterboathletics.com.
